Tonya Brinkley Wright
Tonya Brinkley Wright is a passionate educator, financial literacy advocate, and community leader with over two decades of experience in public education. As the founder of The Phoenix Financial Literacy Services, she empowers youth, families, and aspiring entrepreneurs with practical tools to build generational wealth, improve credit, and achieve financial independence. Her workshops blend real-world strategies with personal development, helping participants create actionable financial goals while fostering confidence and accountability.
With a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from the University of South Florida and a Master's in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University, Tonya has served the Hillsborough County Public School system for 23 years. She is a Certified Financial Instructor, a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator, and an NCCER Certified Construction Instructor.Tonya is currently expanding her knowledge, currently enrolled in University of South Florida, Educational Program Development Doctoral Program.
Born and raised in Miami and now rooted in Tampa Bay, Tonya is also a devoted mother of five, wife, and community partner.Through her work, Tonya’s mission is to break financial barriers, empower individuals to build wealth, and create a lasting legacy of financial literacy for future generations. She collaborates with schools, nonprofits, and local businesses to implement initiatives that close achievement gaps, strengthen family-school relationships, and build sustainable economic pathways for underserved populations.

I asked Tonya to speak to a group of fifth graders about finances—a topic you
don’t typically think of when planning a guest speaker for 10- and 11-year-olds.
